From Venezuela to the Hemisphere: A Warning About the Next Phase of US Intervention in Latin America”
The buck doesn’t stop at Venezuela. Not for Empire. Not for this Donald Trump. No. Of course there is the case of Iran. But for now, I’d like to focus on the Latin-American theatre.
Sights are set on Colombia and Mexico–the two most significant countries (along with Brazil) in terms of history, geography, population, and resources. These are also the countries with two of the most popular governments in their respective histories, governments critical of Empire, and dedicated to a platform and policies which have drastically reduced dependence on the US, while benefiting the masses.
Under the false narrative of a war against narcoterrorism, and having designated fentanyl as a chemical weapon, Trump has laid the foundation and set the precedence for military conquest and instability across the hemisphere, even shamelessly, and actually with tremendous arrogance, re-declaring the Monroe Doctrine (and by name nonetheless). And yet, in the same breath, he confesses true motive–control of resources, territory, and the regimes it approves of, out of self-interest.
This is not benevolent, neither in motive nor effect. In fact, it is quite malignant, and actually diabolical. It is no different than the motive of the Roman Empire which the Prophet Jesus resisted. It is no different than the motives of European powers who carved up Africa, the Middle East, and Asia into colonies which financed and supported the enrichment of the aristocracy, the elite within those respective countries. And it is no different than the rationale and the processes of American expansion, from the Indian Wars, to the Mexican War, to the conquest of Hawaii, and the colonization of Puerto Rico, Samoa, Guam, and The Marshall Islands–which facilitated the rise of the American Empire to the point of achieving global hegemony.
That hegemony has been in decline for decades, which explains this new paradigm of foreign conquest, this time directed throughout Latin America. It is Empires’ desperate effort to extend its shelf life, to maintain its dominate economic and geopolitical dominance over a people and a land that it calls its own, and if by some divine right. And it is Trumps ambition along with the ambitions of the power Elite in general, both in government, big business, finance and the bureaucracy, which are the only ones who stand to gain. If this is not obvious yet, soon it shall be.
