From the Rise of Empires to the Resistance Movements That Challenge Them<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

Militaries are established but for two purposes. The first is defense–to defend the nation and its people from external threats. This is a legitimate purpose, if national defense is authentic.<\/p>\n

The second purpose is imperial expansion into, and domination of, other territories and their populations. Such militaries are both illegitimate as well as malignant.<\/p>\n

Histories distinguish between the two. Empires such as the Greco-Roman, Persian, ancient Chinese, The European Empires (Spanish, Portuguese, British, French, Belgium, etc.) and US all directed their militaries in the way of acquiring colonial territories with all their resources, cheap labor, and geopolitical significance. The economic systems of these Empires were then imposed in those territories, on their populations, who have only known poverty and oppression.<\/p>\n

Against these imperial forces, resistance culminating in revolutions have established alternative military forces, born of the masses, and in many cases solidified in anti-imperial state apparatus’, of which the righteous commitment to national defense dictates the organization, constitution, directives, and campaigns of its militaries. These militaries are of the first type explained above. These militaries, and the circumstances in which they are born and progress, are founded in, and oriented towards national defense, and the defense of the poor and powerless, the common man as it is said. Such militaries and movements are a response to Empire. They are the antithesis of Empire. And they are the only legitimate military forces, if we are to consider the value of human dignity and the repugnance of systematic murder, theft, enslavement, and the like which are the coveted aims of Empire.<\/p>\n

May the agents of empire face justice. May the pawns, the cannon fodder who compose the rank and file of imperial militaries, whose hearts have not been completely corrupted by what they have been trained to embody and carry out, take a stand for what is right, rather than simply marching to orders.. I know there are still many well intended personnel, persuaded by promises of socio-economic opportunity, and a sinister invitation to “get some”–to unleash the worst of human capabilities against other humans and the land that has sustained them for thousands of years\u2014whose conscience remains receptive to the conviction produced by the inner voice of humanity, and the conviction of God Himself.<\/p>\n
