You can deprive a man of his dreams, but you cannot crush the spirit of a warrior,
There are three things that are most despised, and one which is most hated: a liar, a thief, a miser, and a tyrant,
A hardworking and honest man is respected, a compassionate and forgiving man is blessed,
A good heart is like rare honey, which vitalizes the soul and produces life; laughter and gratitude are its best friends,
Only three of Gods creations flutter–a hummingbird, a butterfly upon leaving its cacoon,, and an eagle before it swoops down upon its prey,
A sober and lucid mind is more powerful than any army, the tongue more potent than any weapon,
Intentionality is the foundation of deliberate action, conviction the root of morality,
Otherwise, one is tossed to and fro like dust in the wind, or kelp in the current,
Moved by desire and whim, subject to hedonism and debauchery,
Oh how I have known both. Oh wretched man that I am. May my future be better than my past,
In the race of life, it’s not how we start, so much as how we finish,
Live for today, as if tomorrow may never come,
Girded by self control and discipline, guided by Truth and Rightness,
Denying self, denying flesh; devoted to good, directed by God,
Humble in spirit, grounded in love, wishing good-will upon your neighbor,
Dedicated to the cause of a better world, of universal justice, of pursuit of peace.
Such has been the way of prophets and sages, teachers and saints, since time immemorable,
Such is our duty if we are to live honorably, and leave a good legacy,
Striving in its pursuit, a blessing to our parents and our children,
May we be amongst the righteous, and not go astray.
Ameen!
