Alumni Testimonials

I just want to say how grateful I am to be part of this program. I’ve already gained so much knowledge and inspiration, and I truly look forward to class each week — it’s been such a joy to be there!

The two year clinical program with Center for Herbal Studies has been absolutely life changing.  My intention was to elevate my herbal knowledge in planning to open a practice as a clinical herbalist.  This program has absolutely given me the tools to feel confident opening a practice.  In the process of these two years, I have also been able to dive into my personal health challenges and make huge improvements that have elevated my quality of life.  This program absolutely surpassed my expectations and I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking about taking the program.

Before I studied with David Winston (2016-2020), I thought I knew a great deal about medicinal plants-I was wrong! David covered more about medicinal plants in the first two years than what I had previously learned over a lifetime. He teaching style is personal, tailored and honed to help people find their path in plants. Many of his students go one to do remarkable things, like practicing clinical herbalists, formulators to fill herbal orders for patients, working in the field of conservation of rare native species and running nature centers across the country. David’s reach goes far beyond the U.S. In fact, he has students attending his classes from across the globe and he has lectured in many countries. So, what did I do with my time invested in studying with David? I found a place in my local nature conservancy with a mission to preserve our native plants, many of which are medicinal. It’s the kind of place where people want to learn more about the benefits of the plants they love. It’s a place to teach, to learn, and to help people on their own journeys.  I’m finding that there are conservancy efforts happening throughout the U.S. and around the globe; an imperative made all the more urgent in current times of climate shift. David opened my eyes to a world I never knew existed- a world that needed me, and I it. Thanks, David!

David Winston’s Herbal Training is a truly life changing experience!!  I am forever grateful that I was welcomed in to David’s school!  The learning, and support, as well as all the teacher’s, and of course the curriculum is beyond tops!!!  My life was forever changed much for the better because I was given the chance and privilege to learn herbalism from David, and his school’s teaching team!!!  I went on to do the Therapeutic’s training with David and his school, and loved it too!  I am really hoping and planning to to attend the Grad Program, too!!  I can not recommend David’s school more highly!!!!  If you are on the fence, and can’t decide, all I can say is that a truly life enhancing, and life changing learning experience awaits you to become a GREAT Herbalist!!  David, his teacher’s, his staff, and his school will be there for you every step of the way!!!!

This has been one of the best herbal courses I have taken. I have studied with several top teachers throughout my years (52) of medical practice and this is the best herb class ever!

Nancy Hokenson | Class of 2024

After studying Ayurveda intensively for several years, I was eager to jump into a program in Western herbalism, hoping to expand my herbal knowledge and repertoire to include more plants that are local to me in the U.S. and that might be more familiar to my clients. None of the programs I researched at first felt right, and at the time David Winston’s two-year class was not open for enrollment. I am so unbelievably glad I waited to join this outstanding course—and community. The two-year program has become a highlight of my week, being able to gather with fellow herb-enthusiasts and be in the presence of teachers who have committed their lives to herbal medicine. Between the abundant resources (which would take any individual years to compile—that individual being David!), the range of expert faculty who all bring a different energy and expertise to the program, and the opportunity to explore topics in plant medicine through our projects and questions—this has been a truly transformative two years that will inspire many more decades of study, practice, and sharing. I feel so proud and honored to have had the opportunity to study with David. His mission to treat people, not diseases, and to help his students become not just good herbalists, but great ones, is undoubtedly changing the world for the better.
