In the 2016 election cycle, Trump brazenly stated that he could “shoot a man on 5th Ave” and not lose a single vote. At the time, I thought it was funny. I was also greatly deceived at that time.
Looking back, and with clarity, I see now that in that one statement, how this man who sits in the white house is convinced that he can do whatever he pleases with absolute impunity. And this is a very dangerous position for anyone to have, especially somebody with such power and influence!
Impunity doesn’t exist–there are always consequences, both in this life and especially in The Hereafter. And if, in a democracy, elected officials act as if they did enjoy impunity, and as such violate the rights of its citizens and the sovereignty of its adversaries, subjecting them to oppression and injustice–well then shame on us for not rising up and demanding accountability and justice. That is both our right and our civic and human duty.
